Biar K. Atem, Founder of the South Sudan Center of America started out as a penniless immigrant janitor when he was resettled to the United States as a refugee. Today, Biar represents a "rag-to-riches" success story and was named to Fortune Magazine's "Heroes of the 500" for helping other children suffering from persecution and poverty.
